Mathematics and Computation

A blog about mathematics for computers

A new style for the blog

It was time I changed the old blog style to something a bit more modern. I hope you like it.

Now I just have to figure out how to port 60 blog posts from ASCIIMathML notation to something a bit friendlier that can use MathML but does not require it. What is out there? I know about jsMath. I am open to suggestions.

Maybe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texvc would be useful...

Actually reading again, it probably won't help you port old posts

Wordpress has a pugin that allows editing in LaTeX.

For example, $latex \sum_{n=0}^\infty a_n<\infty$ produces the corresponding relation.

It appears that now latex can be supressed. $\int_a^b f(x) dx$

You are seeing the math because ASCIIMathML is converting it for you. I have not installed any LaTeX plugins for Wordpress. By the way, which plugin do you have in mind specifically?

Doesn't Latex-to-wordpress generate images? Is there something that'll do MathML if MathML is supported by the browers and images otherwise?

jsLaTeX looks like it could be a contender: http://blog.dreasgrech.com/2009/12/jslatex-jquery-plugin-to-directly-embed.html

sarah, I am not a big fan of image-based translations of math. I'd rather have something that uses MathML by default, and images only as a fallback method (if at all).

www.mathjax.org is very good and the successor to jsMath. I'm using it on my blog.

my vote for MathJax as well
